The Defense Alliance was awarded a grant in 2021 under the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Defense Alliance of North Carolina (hereinafter referred to as “DANC”) and the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission (hereinafter referred to as “NCMAC”) that outlined the responsibilities and cooperation between the two parties as it relates to funding to support the DANC proposal for a task oriented and strategic collaborative partnership with the NCMAC. The proposal objective was to support and create broader awareness and impact of NCMAC initiatives and strategic efforts both regionally and nationally.
NCMAC promotes the values of the military and supporting entities at the federal, state, and local levels in order to sustain, enhance and protect our military installations and missions. One emphasis of the NCMAC is to strengthen public awareness of the Commission’s functions, strategic efforts, and priorities and to improve feedback on emerging opportunities and challenges. Achieving the strategic goals of the NCMAC and fulfilling the statutory duties of the Commission are dependent upon a strong, coordinated, and comprehensive communications and outreach effort. The proposed DANC/NCMAC partnership will help bridge this gap by leveraging a dynamic, effective network of military, business, academic, and community enterprises.
NCMAC shall identify and support economic development organizations and initiatives that focus on leveraging the military and other business opportunities to help create jobs and expand defense and homeland security related economic development activity in North Carolina.
DANC is a private, non-profit organization focused on strengthening North Carolina’s defense sector and those who support it. They combine the powerful leadership of retired distinguished military officer and industry executives with a large and active membership base and an impressive set of standing forums, events, and partnerships to support North Carolina’s government, military business, and academic enterprises; the DANC mission is to grow North Carolina’s defense economy in a way that generates new long-term investment and job opportunities. DANC created and maintains the Defense Asset Inventory and Target Industry Cluster Analysis. This dynamic tool pinpoints where the state’s industry academia, and R&D strengths coincide with current and emerging needs of military and broader national security agencies.
