The office of Carolina Advanced Digital started in Siler City, NC with our President, John Jabbusch, a stack of plain business cards, and a single brown phone in 1984. By 1985 the company was officially formed and servicing a select group of enterprise customers, mostly in North Carolina. By 1993, John’s wife Susan Jabbusch bought out John’s partner, making it a real family-owned business. At the beginning of the company’s growth, Carolina Advanced Digital offered enterprise networking and custom system design. John’s home office sported a VAX running VMS, two workstations with digitizing tablets, an unusually tall tape rack, and then a variety of Apple and DOS, then Windows computers. Occasionally we still find a random tape reel, a box of unopened floppies, and the rare greenbar printer paper hidden in crevices or boxes, relics which remind us of the first years in business.
Thirty years later, much has changed, but the core values and mission remain the same: We help clients achieve their mission through exceptional engineering. John started the mission in 1984, and we continue on that path today.
In the last 30 years, Carolina Advanced Digital has grown and evolved continuously to meet the ever-changing demands of technologies and customer needs. Our enterprise services throughout our existence have been peppered with other solution offerings including our ISP services to rural North Carolina, break-fix tech services for SMBs and consumers, as well as a MSP offering for SMBs.
Our solutions and competencies also evolve, leading with enterprise wireless solutions back in the 1990s, then layering advanced security technologies in the early 2000s. Green Engineering’s mission is to satisfy the needs of local governments that do not have in-house engineering capabilities and to supplement engineering departments that require specialized skills.
The mission today remains virtually unchanged. However, the company’s client base has expanded over the last half century to include multi-national corporations, universities and colleges, public schools, branches of the armed forces, federal agencies, private developers, and state government.
Founded at the end of World War II by F. Talmadge Green, a civil engineer and former city manager, Green and Phelps, Inc. began business primarily as a local surveying company in Wilson, North Carolina. In the early 1950’s, Talmadge Green became sole owner and the company was changed to F. T. Green & Associates and began providing engineering services to area clients, as well.
In 1964, Talmadge’s nephew, E. Leo Green, Jr., joined the company as a young civil engineering graduate of North Carolina State University. Later, in 1971, Talmadge retired from the company and sold the majority share of F. T. Green & Associates to Leo Green. Under the leadership of Leo Green, the company experienced rapid growth and expanded its base by providing a broad range of engineering design services to North Carolina municipalities and counties. The name was changed to Green Engineering and has emerged as one of the most diversified and technologically-advanced engineering companies in the state, serving both public and private sectors.
With headquarters in Wilson, North Carolina, Green Engineering is strategically positioned and adequately staffed to serve the day-to-day engineering requirements of communities throughout central and eastern North Carolina.
From its inception, the company has been recognized for its planning, design and construction management work in all types of wastewater treatment and disposal facilities, water treatment and distribution systems, industrial parks, shopping centers, airports, correctional facilities, government installations, county roads and interstate highways. The county’s private-sector manufacturing economy is anchored by a Rooms to Go distribution center, Food Lion distribution center, SAAB Barracuda, Grayflex, Boon Edam, Edwards Brothers Malloy and Godwin Manufacturing. The county’s manufacturing economy is strong and diversified, with many companies serving businesses located in adjoining urban areas and fulfilling defense contracts for near-by Fort Bragg.
Harnett County also provides a welcoming climate for entrepreneurs to grow and start their businesses, so finding companies creating the latest apps for iPhone or Android, or a thriving boutique bakery, is easy.
Harnett County is also home to Campbell University, which offers degrees in law, engineering, pharmacology, osteopathic medicine, physician’s assistant and nursing, as well as a variety of undergraduate degrees. Central Carolina Community College provides outstanding workforce training for industrial and medical fields, and continuing-education opportunities. Seven additional universities, including Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are less than an hour away.
