We’ve been preaching about hardening cybersecurity hygiene since the 90’s, and it seems as though it’s time to really take a serious look at the current state of the cyber landscape. When we began using the Internet in the 90’s after companies like Amazon and Yahoo commercialized it, we should have first focused on security. Hindsight is 20/20, and in 2021 we urge you: take your cybersecurity seriously.
Maybe everyone assumed it was safe, since in 1981 the National Science Foundation created the Computer Science Network (CSNET) and built interconnected networks that plugged in to other networks. Throughout the 1980’s, the Internet was used by researchers and entities such as the Department of Defense’s ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency). In 1995, the last of the restrictions were lifted regarding commercial traffic on the Internet. And now, here we are. We are all connected on the Internet of Things (IoT), and technology is ever-emerging. Unfortunately, so are the inherent threats.
